Dr. Ghulam Shabbir

Dr. Ghulam Shabbir is a distinguished historian and academician with over fifteen years of experience in teaching and research. Currently serving as an Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of History & Pakistan Studies at the University of Gujrat, he has made significant contributions to the study of South Asian history, political leadership, and the freedom movement of the Indian subcontinent. Dr. Shabbir holds a Ph.D. and M.Phil. in History from the University of the Punjab, Lahore, with his doctoral research focusing on a comparative study of the political leadership of Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Jawaharlal Nehru. His expertise spans diverse historical disciplines, including Pakistan Studies, South Asian History, Islamic History, World History, and International Relations. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Dr. Shabbir plays an integral role in academic administration. He serves as a member of the Board of Faculty and Board of Studies, a warden of the university’s boys' hostel, and a member of the Departmental Research Review Committee (DRRC). His HEC-approved supervisory status enables him to guide both M.Phil. and Ph.D. scholars in their research pursuits. A prolific researcher, Dr. Shabbir has authored multiple books and published extensively in HEC-recognized national and international journals. His scholarly work includes comparative studies of Jinnah and Gandhi, political movements in colonial India, and the geopolitical dynamics of Pakistan and South Asia. His research has also delved into the ideological and constitutional developments of Pakistan, cultural heritage, and the socio-political challenges in the region. Beyond academia, Dr. Shabbir has actively participated in national and international conferences, presenting papers on South Asian history, leadership, and political movements. He has also attended numerous workshops and training programs aimed at enhancing academic excellence, research methodologies, and leadership skills in higher education. His passion for history extends to his role as an academic mentor, curriculum developer, and event organizer. Dr. Shabbir remains committed to preserving historical narratives, fostering critical thinking, and mentoring future scholars in the field of history and Pakistan Studies.
Dr. Ghulam Shabbir's research interests lie in the political leadership of modern South Asia, particularly focusing on figures such as Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Mahatma Gandhi. His work explores comparative political leadership, ideological movements, and governance structures that shaped the subcontinent’s history. His research delves into the freedom movement of Indo-Pakistan, the partition of India, and British colonial policies, analyzing their long-term socio-political and economic impacts. He is also keenly interested in the geopolitical dynamics of South Asia, particularly the evolving relations between Pakistan and India, the role of charismatic leadership in conflict resolution, and the constitutional and ideological developments of Pakistan. Dr. Shabbir has contributed significantly to the study of historical narratives, historiography, and nation-building in post-colonial states. His scholarly work also examines religious and secular dynamics in shaping national identities, as well as the role of cultural heritage in modern political discourse.
Currently, he is engaged in supervising research on various aspects of South Asian history, international relations, and political ideologies, aiming to contribute to the academic discourse on leadership, democracy, and state-building in the region.
