Naveed Sultan | MS | A GENERIC MULTIMODALNANALYSIS OF MEDICAL BROCHURES IN PAKISTAN The current research explores the generic structure of multimodal semiotics used in the medical brochures published by five pharmaceutical companies in Pakistan. The research focuses on the different verbal and visual modes used by the companies in their brochures. The study draws upon the works of Bateman (2008), O’ Halloran, (2005), and Kress and van Leeuwen (2006) to develop a hybrid framework for the current study. The five different companies were selected by using criterion sampling techniques. At the second stage of sampling, 50 brochures were selected to analyze the data. The five brochures related to health management and child care were selected for the research from each company. The criterion and purposive sampling are used for the selection of medical brochure and the companies. The research findings show that the base layer is present in the brochure of all companies, the layout layer is used by all companies, but they differ from each other. The Abbot Company uses all of the element of the cohesive layer but other companies miss the consequential relation in their brochure. The communicative layer is present in the brochure of all companies. The difference between the health and childcare brochures is of images and drawings or tables. The child care brochures use more images and tables than used by the health care brochures to communicate with users. | 2021 |
