As a dedicated academic and researcher, my primary research interest lies in the intricate dynamics of finance, particularly focusing on corporate governance, investor behavior, and market volatility. These areas are crucial for understanding the mechanisms that drive financial markets and the factors influencing investment decisions in emerging economies like Pakistan.
My academic journey began with a strong foundation in Mathematics and Statistics, which provided me with the analytical tools necessary to explore complex financial phenomena. This foundation was further solidified during my MBA in Finance and subsequent MS/M.Phil in Finance, where I conducted my thesis on "Investor Sentiments: Cash Market Volatility as a Forecaster of Equity Market Returns" in Pakistan's equity market. This research highlighted the significant impact that investor emotions and market sentiment can have on asset prices, particularly in volatile markets. It ignited my passion for understanding how psychological factors affect economic decision-making.
Currently, I am pursuing a PhD at Universiti Malaysia Terengganu, where I have successfully completed coursework and passed my PhD candidature assessment. My supervisor has recommended that I proceed with my research, marking a critical milestone in my academic journey. My doctoral research aims to expand upon my previous work by investigating the relationship between corporate governance practices and firm performance in the context of family-owned businesses in Pakistan. Given the prevalence of family firms in emerging markets, understanding the unique governance challenges they face is essential for improving their operational efficiency and competitiveness.
In addition to corporate governance, I am also keenly interested in exploring investor behavior, particularly the cognitive biases that influence investment decisions. My publication on "Post Covid-19 Impact of Availability Bias Effect on Investment Decisions of Pakistan Stock Exchange Registered Brokers Investors" underscores the relevance of this topic in the current economic climate. Understanding how biases affect decision-making can lead to more effective investment strategies and improved financial literacy among investors.
Moreover, my research interests extend to the implications of ownership structures on firm performance. I have published several papers examining how different ownership configurations, such as concentrated ownership and family control, impact corporate governance and financial outcomes. This line of inquiry is particularly relevant in Pakistan, where family-owned businesses dominate the economic landscape. By investigating these relationships, I aim to contribute valuable insights that can inform policymakers and business leaders on best practices for enhancing corporate performance.
My commitment to research is also reflected in my extensive publication record, which includes articles in reputable journals such as Frontiers in Psychology and the Pakistan Journal of Social Research. These publications not only showcase my ability to engage with contemporary issues in finance but also highlight my dedication to addressing the challenges faced by businesses in Pakistan.
Additionally, my experience in supervising MBA theses and participating in academic conferences has allowed me to engage with fellow researchers and practitioners, fostering a collaborative environment for knowledge exchange. I believe that interdisciplinary approaches are vital for comprehensively understanding complex financial issues, and I am eager to collaborate with scholars from diverse fields to further enrich my research.
In conclusion, my research interests in corporate governance, investor behavior, and the impact of ownership structures on firm performance reflect my commitment to advancing knowledge in the field of finance. Through my PhD research and ongoing scholarly activities, I aim to contribute to the academic community's understanding of the unique financial dynamics in emerging markets, ultimately helping to inform better business practices and policy decisions in Pakistan and beyond. I am excited about the potential for my research to make a meaningful impact and look forward to further exploring these critical areas in my academic career
