Saif Ur Rehman, Hafiz M Abubakar | B.Sc. | Design of Wideband Passive Structures at mm-wave Silicon-based millimeter-wave (mm-wave) integrated circuits (ICs) play a critical role for the upcoming 5G applications. In this brief, different on-chip passive structures designed in silicon-based technology are overviewed, including resonator, filter, balun, and coupler. These passive components act not only as fundamental building blocks but also can be used in conjunction with other active components for millimeter-wave transceiver design, such as phase shifters, frequency multipliers, and power amplifiers. By combining active components with these passive structures, the overall performance of the active components could be significantly improved. | 2022 |
M.Umar Mustafa, Usman Ali | B.Sc. | Design and Analysis of Integrated On-Chip Millimetre Wave Transformer The millimetre wave communication systems that ranges from 30GHz to 300GHz at wavelength of 10mm to 1mm, have got a lot of importance in recent years. Its certain applications are 28GHz 5G, 60GHz WLANs and WPANs, 77GHz automotive radar, and 80GHz voltage control oscillators. This project quest is the efficient modelling, analysis, and design of transformer at millimetre wave frequencies that is used as DC isolation, impedance matching and power conversion elements in these circuits. The transformer is also used as the Balun, an electric device for conversion between balanced and unbalanced signals. At lower frequencies, signal conversion can be achieved with active Balun or a differential pair with the unused input terminated off chip but at millimetre wave, the Balun has poor impedance matching, high frequency losses and isolation issues which will be analysed in this project and an efficient scheme will be developed to design the baluns at millimetre wave range. | 2021 |
ANUM SHAHBAZ GH, MOMINA TABASSUM | B.Sc. | PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS OF MPPT WITH FIX AND RECONFIGURABLE PV ARRAYS Maximum Power Point Tracker (MPPT) charge controller is used as an intermediate device in a solar system between photovoltaic panels and batteries. Multiple panels are usually used to feed energy in large solar PV systems. The performance of MPPT charge controller varies as panel’s size varies. In this work the analysis is performed to examine whether the single large panel will be effective or multiple small panels can provide better output when interfaced with MPPT controller. The series and parallel connections of panels experienced by MPPT vary the output performance, which is examined in this work as battery charging current. | 2014 |

Ahmad Waqas, Muhammad Ramiz, Bilal Ashraf, Rabia Noureen | B.Sc. | GSM Based Smart Home As the technology in the world is growing day by day making the human life more comfortable but except of having latest technology the security of the home is still the major problem of the hour and everyone wants to have strict approach to avoid the intrusion. In addition there is also need to automate the home in such a way that a user can get control on all the Home Appliances with almost zero effort, therefore the aim of this project is to ensure the security of the home against Intruders, remotely control of home Appliances and protection against damage caused by fire. While all these tasks will be achieved using GSM technology which is best trustable and cost effective technology. Hence this project will provide the knowledge about the Microcontroller used in the project, Mobile Communication, interfacing of Microcontroller and GSM Module using AT commands, as well as the sensors interfacing with Microcontroller. | 2011 |
Qamar Aftab | M.Sc. | FAST DESIGN APPROACH FOR MILLIMETER WAVE ON-CHIP TRANSFORMER This study addresses the time-exhaustive nature of electromagnetic (EM) simulations, particularly in the range of high frequencies. A rapid approach is required to moderate the computational burden during the design of millimeter-wave circuits. The focus of this research is the rapid design and simulation of on-chip millimeter-wave transformers, critical components in high-frequency transceiver designs. Operating as inductively coupled resonators, these transformers leverage this principle to derive initial design parameters through an electrical model. This model is successively translated into a closely corresponding transformer layout using established electrical laws. The validity of the lumped model is confirmed, flooring the way for a systematic layout creation process for both the primary and secondary sides, considering the determined coupling coefficient. The study outlines an efficient procedure for expeditiously designing the transformer layout from its basic electrical model. This involves sequentially creating individual layouts for the primary and secondary sides, which are then integrated while observing the desired coupling coefficient. Furthermore, the usefulness of this method extends to various input and output impedance configurations for the transformer. | 2024 |
