Dr Sumera Afsheen joined as Assistant Professor in the Department of Zoology, University of Gujrat on November 01, 2008 and presently working as Associate Professor (BPS-20). She is also serving with additional responsibility as Director, UoG City Campus Fawara Chowk, Gujrat since January 2020 to date. In her professional career she won NRPU project in 2018 as Principal Investigator (PI) in addition to CO-PI of three SRGP/NRPU projects awarded by the HEC-Pakistan. She was awarded with the Financial Reward against Publications in 2018, 2017 and 2016 from UOG. She is HEC Approved PhD Supervisor and published more than forty research papers in addition to four (04) books/Chapters. She has supervised more than twenty MPhil/PhD students in addition to thirteen undergraduate students. She attended various workshops/trainings in addition to international conferences as participants/ oral presenter. She has also been a member of the Royal Entomological Society, United Kingdom. She had been working as Chairperson-Zoology from August 01, 2016 to May 22, 2018, then from May 23, 2018 to June 30, 2019 worked as Director UoG City Campus, Fawara Chowk and with additional assignments as Warden Girls Hostel, Departmental coordinator/ HOD, Vice Chairperson Proctorial board etc. She is Convener/ member (s) of various statuary bodies/committees within and outside the UoG. Before joining UoG, she had served as Assistant Research Officer (BPS17) in the Directorate, Entomological Research Institute -AARI, Faisalabad, Pakistan She earned PhD degree in Entomology from Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, People’s republic of China that is ranked #53 in QS Global World Rankings 2021. In her educational career, she was awarded “Merit Scholarship for PhD” under Overseas PhD Program Phase-II Batch- II from Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan in 2005. She is bronze medalist in M.Sc (Hons) and silver medalist in B.Sc (Hons) from University of Arid Agriculture, Rawalpindi. She received merit scholarships during her BSc (Hons) and remained throughout first class in her educational career. She has also been nominated from Pakistan by Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan for participation in the “60th Meeting of Nobel laureates in Lindau (Germany) from June 27-July 3, 2010”. Her research interests lie in the field of Entomology, Molecular and Chemical Ecology, Toxicology, Biodiversity, Bio-Physics, Nano-Devices, Ecology, Environmental Sciences, Nanoplasmonic based Biosensors. She believes in hard work, dedication and professional commitment to excel in the field of research and teaching beside exhibiting ethics/ moral values well reflective of our culture and religion.
