Biography

  • Prof. Dr. Faisal Mehmood Mirza is an internationally recognized academician, researcher, and thought leader in the field of economics, with a career spanning over two decades. Presently, he is the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Gujrat, Pakistan. He has made significant contributions for the advancement of education, research, and economic policy analysis for energy sector and environmental sustainability in Pakistan and beyond. He has given utmost importance to issues critical to the energy sector in Pakistan and the developing economies. In his profession, Dr. Mirza has held several top positions that speak for his leadership acumen and dedication to academic advancement. He serves as a dean and executive director of poverty research center at university of Gujrat, undertaking strategic development in the Faculty of Social Sciences, allowing for interdisciplinary research and academic innovation. Earlier, he also chaired the Department of Economics at the University of Gujrat for five years. His editorial leadership reaches to some of the most esteemed journals, as he is also the Editor of the Pakistan Journal of Social Issues, Review Editor for Frontiers in Environmental Economics, member editorial advisory boards of Empirical Economic Review and the Journal of Policy Research Perspectives. Dr. Mirza serves on multiple advisory boards and academic committees, with his expertise contributing to the formulation of impactful policies and research initiatives. Dr. Mirza is a prolific researcher with more than 50 peer-reviewed publications in some of the most prestigious journals in the field of energy economics. He has worked on a wide range of topics-from energy efficiency to the nexus of water-energy-food and the socio-economic impacts of energy reforms. His work is centrally aimed at seeking sustainability and equity in economic development. The scholastic contributions of Dr. Mirza have been recognized widely through winning the Best Paper Awards at the International Conferences. His work is complemented by being part of high-impact projects funded by leading institutions addressing issues related to poverty alleviation, skill development, entrepreneurship and energy policy reforms. Besides his academic and research initiatives, Dr. Mirza has had significant contributions toward institutional governance at the University of Gujrat. He has a vast experience in dealing with financial matters of the university and has looked after the affairs of the office of the director procurement for about five years with the ambition to carry our university procurements in the most cost-effective manner and bring financial savings to the university exchequer. He chaired and was part of various committees that were in charge of strategic planning, academic development, and resource management at the university. His role as convener for the Admission Committee, Board of Studies, and Central Purchase Committee and membership in UOG’s academic council, Advanced Studies Research Board and the Syndicate are a testament to his commitment towards excellence in institutional governance and how he could merge strategic vision with operational efficiency. Prof. Dr. Faisal Mehmood Mirza is a visionary leader and scholar who is committed to advancing knowledge, develop intuitions and departments, fostering sustainable development, and addressing the socio-economic challenges of contemporary society. His work continues to shape academic discourse, influence policy, and inspire future generations of researchers and practitioners.
