Department of Botany
The aim of the
Department of Botany is to promote an integrated understanding of
utilization of plants in various disciplines to explore the underlying
mechanisms for promoting friendly environment. Particular emphasis
focusing on the application of biological knowledge to stimulating
current advances in Plant Physiology, Molecular cloning, Microbial
Biotechnology, food production and Environmental Sciences. Research and
education in the Department are dedicated to developing high quality
scientific results which could be exploited for the benefit of humanity.
The Department strives at the best to boost consciousness in the
scientific community as well as in society of the need for interaction
and cooperation between socioeconomic and natural sciences both
nationally and internationally.
The Department of
Botany aims to nurture and flourish the research-based teaching with
clear vision of future need of the society and Agro-economy of the
country. The Department has a strong faculty of Plant Stress Physiology
and Biotechnology. The modern molecular techniques with combination of
traditional breeding methods are helpful to ensure the demands of
farmers in the suburbs of the University of
Gujrat particularly and the country in
general. We are well aware of the industry-based objective to foster the
socio-economic growth by providing the professionally well equipped
botany graduates to the society.
The Department of
Botany performs research work besides fulfilling the teaching
commitments through counselling and guidance to shoulder the
responsibility of becoming a first-rate useful segment of the society.
We are committed to extending our potential to expand in a way that
being a component of Institute of
Biological Sciences, we make use of
better resources and human resource under one roof. Many projects are in
pipeline in collaboration with the laboratories of national as well as
foreign universities. We have a broader vision to expand our BS (Hons)
programme into MS and doctorate level. We offer a number of major and
minor courses to students of various disciplines of BS and MS to provide
the requisite knowledge-based learning.
