Dr. Muhammad Akbar did MSc in Botany from University of Arid Agriculture, Rawalpindi. He won HEC scholarship and moved to University of the Punjab, Lahore, to do PhD with specialization in metabolomics. In the meantime, he moved to University of California, Santa Cruz, USA, to work as Junior Specialist in Pourmand's lab., Department of Biomolecular Engineering. After PhD, he joined Department of Botany, University of Gujrat as Assistant Professor on November 12, 2013 and currently engaged in teaching and research. He is an HEC approved PhD supervisor and currently supervising MPhil & PhD scholars.

  • Metabolomics: Isolation of bioactive compounds from fungi, medicinal mushrooms and plants. Allelopathy, biological control of plant diseases and weeds, biopesticides, disease management via allelopathy. He has expertise in following techniques; Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC), Column Chromatography (CC), Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectroscopy (LCMS), Reversed Phase High Performance Liquid Chromatography (RPHPLC) & Gas Chromatography Mass Spectroscopy (GCMS). Techniques related to molecular biology such as gel electrophoresis, DNA quantification using Nanodrop, long chain PCR of mitochondrial DNA, Nested PCR, Amplification with the help of nicking enzymes, bead based and column based DNA purification and DNA library preparation for next generation sequencing.
