Department of Environment Sciences going to celebrate World Environment Day 2012 along with EPA at UOG
The Department of Environmental Sciences and UOG green society in collaboration with Environment Protection Agency (EPA), Student Services Center (SSC) and Department of Administration & Coordination (A&C) celebrated the World Environment Day on 5th June 2012 under the theme: “Green Economy: Does it include you?”
In the starting of the day an “Awareness Walk “ was arranged from Admin Block to Lane 1. The walk was led by the Director ICBS Prof. Dr. Muhammad Faheem Malik , Mr. Maqsood Rabbani Butt District Officer of EPA accompanied by the Faculty members of Department of Environmental Sciences and students of Environmental Sciences. The Head of Botany Department Dr. Khizar Hayat, Faculty members and some students of Botany also joined the walk. During the walk T-shirts and caps were also distributed among the students by the Environment Protection Agency District Gujrat.

In the end of the walk plantation was done at lane one. Plantation ceremony was inaugurated by Miss Jahan Ara (Mrs. VC), Prof Dr. Muhammad Faheem Malik Director ICBS, District officer EPA Mr. Maqsood Rubani Butt, Head of Botany Department Dr. Khizar Hayat Academic coordinator Miss Saira Munawar, Syed Muhammad Kashif from SSC. Faculty members of Environmental Sciences, Miss Khoula Sikandar, Miss Ayesha Siddiqa and students of Environmental Sciences also actively participated in plantation.

A seminar was also arranged by Dept of Environmental Sciences in collaboration with EPA District Gujrat, SSC, and Dept of Administration & Coordination for the awareness regarding to the theme of World Environmental Day 2012“Green Economy: Does it include you?”. The guests for the seminar were Dr. Tahir Khalil Uppal (Khalil Hospital, Gujrat), Engr. M. Afzal Gondal (Gondal Group of Industries) and Maqssod Rubbani District Officer EPA.
Kiran Shahzadi from 2nd Semester of Environmental Sciences recited the verses of Holy Quran and Aneela Yaqoob presented Naat.

Academic Coordinator/Lecturer Dept of Environmental Sciences Miss Saira Munawar gave the welcome speech to all officials, faculty and the students. She welcomed all guests and said that celebrating World Environmental Day has become a tradition of Department of Environmental Sciences to make people awaken about their environment and raise voices around the globe for healthy planet.

Dr. Tahir Khalil Uppal of Khalil Hospital Gujrat in his lecture put emphasis on planting a tree and not only plating it but also to own at least one plant. He also gave some ideas of disposing and treating the hospital waste.

Engr. M. Afzal Gondal of Gondal Group of Industries said that there are four chapters of success Education, Honesty, Discipline and Hardworking. He said that to achieve the goal of green economy we have to go through all these chapters.

In the end Prof. Dr. Muhammad Faheem Malik gave the closing remarks. He thanked all the guests, faculty members and students and said that it’s nice to see all students here from different departments. He said that W.E.D is about the inspirational power of individual actions that collectively become an exponential force for the positive change. A green economy as one that results in improved human well being and social equity, while significantly reducing environmental risks and ecological scarcities.
