Two Days Training Workshop on Basic Life Safety (BLS) By Rescue 1122 Gujrat at UOG

Department of Environmental Sciences organized a two days training workshop on “Basic Life Safety” in collaboration with Rescue 1122 Gujrat.

The Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) has been established under the Punjab Emergency Service Act, 2006, for professional management of emergencies by maintaining a state of preparedness to deal with emergencies, providing timely response, rescue and emergency medical treatment to the persons affected by emergencies. The Punjab Emergency Council and District Emergency Boards have also been constituted to ensure effective management & prevention of emergencies and to recommend measures for mitigation of hazards endangering public safety.

Lahore Pilot Project was launched in 2004 and after the success of this project Rescue 1122 is now operational in all Districts of Punjab with a population of over 80 million and providing technical assistance to other Provinces of Pakistan. Rescue 1122 includes Emergency Ambulance, Rescue & Fire services and Community Safety program. The Service has provided a sense of safety to the citizens by rescuing over 1,343,358 victims of emergencies while maintaining its standard and average response time of 7 minutes in all Districts of Punjab.

The Emergency Services Academy has also been established to ensure sustainable human resource development of emergency services which have been long neglected in Pakistan. This Academy is now a centre of excellence in Pakistan for imparting emergency medical training, fire fighting, collapse structure search & rescue, high angle & confined space rescue, water rescue and other emergency management skills.

 

Rescue 1122 started working in Gujrat on November 22, 2009 to help and rescue the people of Gujrat and its related areas.

The rescue 1122 team consist of four member. The team was headed by Zaki Haider (RSO), and other members include Tassaduq Hussain (Medical Emergency Expert), Usman Safdar (Fire Fighter) and Jabbar Hussain (LTV) along with Department of Environmental Sciences, Institute of Chemical & Biological Sciences organize this workshop.

Prof Dr Muhammad Faheem Malik, Chairperson Department of Environmental Sciences, Director Institute of Chemical & Biological Sciences welcomed 1122 team to start technical sessions.

Introduction was given by Mr. Zaki Haider (RSO) about Rescue 1122 and introductory video of Rescue 1122 was shown to participants of workshop. A pre test was given by rescue team for the knowledge evaluation of students.

 The First day of workshop include training related to FBAO (Foreign Body Airway Obstruction) and CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation). Lectures were given by Tassadaq Hussain (Medical Emergency Expert) about CPR and FBAO and practice was performed on dummies. Tassaduq Hussain gave practical description of FBAO and Usman Safdar gave practical description of CPR. Students of Environmental Sciences performed the practical of CPR and FBAO.

The Second day of workshop consisted of training related to Medical Emergencies including Fractures, Soft Tissue Injuries etc and Fire Related Emergencies. Mr. Tassaduq gave lectures about different fractures, soft tissue injuries and gave the practical description of how to deal with these emergencies. Students of Env. Sciences also did the practice of how to do bandages in case of soft tissue injuries, different type of fractures and other emergencies.

Mr. Usman Safdar (present his lecture related to fire fighting. He told students about fire, its related harms, types of fires and how to deal in case of fire emergencies. He gave the practical description of how to use the fire extinguishers.

Practical Evaluation Test of students was taken by the Rescue Team and a post test was also given to students for evaluation. On the basis of result 1122 team will distribute certificates to the participants. The closing remarks were given by Prof Dr Muhammad Faheem Malik, Chairperson Department of Environmental Sciences, Director Institute of Chemical & Biological Sciences. He said this type workshops is very useful and important for university youngsters. He also gave his suggestions to the organizer that their should be female trainers so that female can learn in more friendly environment.

The purpose of this workshop is to train the students to make them a Volunteer Rescuers of their families and Society, help the people in case of any emergency by basic life safety techniques and save life of people, and to bring a positive change among the students to serve the humanity.

All this exemplary performance had been made possible due to the hard work of faculty members of Environmental Sciences, UOG Green Society (UGS) of Environmental Sciences under the visionary leadership of Prof. Dr. Muhammad Faheem Malik Chairperson Environmental Sciences.
