Institute of Physics and Mathematical Sciences consists of departments of Physics, Mathematics and Statistics of the university. The institute was constituted owing to strengthen coordination and collaboration between these subjects in order to provide an access of available facilities and manpower to the students and faculty for teaching and research. It is well known that the said disciplines are highly linked with each other to study nature and provide facilitation to the mankind. Physicists use mathematics as a tool to build their models to explain the physical phenomenon and problems related to plasma physics, particle physics, nuclear physics, solid state physics etc. It is believed that mathematics, when powered by physics in addition to human ideas and imagination, can discover the structure of the universe. The scientists working in both these fields often encountered problems while analyzing their data and seek assistance of colleagues’ expert in statistical analysis. The institute is therefore equipped with statistics department which has become a vital research instrument worldwide. Moreover, Physics and Mathematics deal with functional relationships whereas in the real world there are so many probabilistic relationships in the universe. In such situations department of Statistics place a vital role with advanced techniques. Though PhD program of the institute is in pipeline but currently it offers BS, MSc and MPhil/MS programs in related disciplines.
