Research Activities
The Centre has been involved in various research activities in the
recent past, as enumerated in the following:
Population Ageing Survey
This survey was undertaken to assess the living conditions of the
elderly in Punjab with a sample size of
4,191 people aged 60 and above. The main objective of the project,
executed with the support of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA),
Pakistan Country Office, was to identify the extent of the physical,
psychological and financial needs of the elderly, and to elicit their
views and suggestions on meeting these needs. The survey’s report,
titled How the Elderly Live in
Punjab, has also been designed and printed at the University of
Gujrat Press (UOGP).
Holding Up the
Sky: Women, Population and Climate Change
The Pakistan
Supplement to the State of World Population 2009 report, titled
Holding Up the Sky: Women,
Population and Climate Change, was prepared by the Centre in
collaboration with UNFPA, Pakistan Country Office. The document was also
designed and printed at the UOGP.
The Pakistan
Journal of Social Issues
Work is also in progress to bring out the first issue of the biannual
journal of the Centre titled
Pakistan Journal of Social Issues.
Scientific papers on various social issues have been received from
different public and private sector universities for the journal. A peer
review committee of the Centre is reviewing the papers.
