Research Activities

The Centre has been involved in various research activities in the recent past, as enumerated in the following:

Population Ageing Survey

This survey was undertaken to assess the living conditions of the elderly in Punjab with a sample size of 4,191 people aged 60 and above. The main objective of the project, executed with the support of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Pakistan Country Office, was to identify the extent of the physical, psychological and financial needs of the elderly, and to elicit their views and suggestions on meeting these needs. The survey’s report, titled How the Elderly Live in Punjab, has also been designed and printed at the University of Gujrat Press (UOGP).

Holding Up the Sky: Women, Population and Climate Change

The Pakistan Supplement to the State of World Population 2009 report, titled Holding Up the Sky: Women, Population and Climate Change, was prepared by the Centre in collaboration with UNFPA, Pakistan Country Office. The document was also designed and printed at the UOGP.

The Pakistan Journal of Social Issues

Work is also in progress to bring out the first issue of the biannual journal of the Centre titled Pakistan Journal of Social Issues. Scientific papers on various social issues have been received from different public and private sector universities for the journal. A peer review committee of the Centre is reviewing the papers.
